The Speaker House of the Representative, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, on Wednesday during plenary session read president  Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the Reps members concerning a request to approve the federal government 2016 – 2018 borrowing plan.  This was made known to newsmen through Hon. Suspected Taliban insurgents on Monday attacked a US-operated base in Afghanistan's eastern province of Khost, officials said, but gave few immediate details of an assault that coincided with a visit to Kabul by US Secretary of Defence James Mattis. The attackers had detonated a car bomb at an entrance to Camp Chapman, a secretive facility manned by US forces and private military contractors, said Mubarez Mohammad Zadran, a spokesman for the provincial governor. But he had little immediate information on any damage or casualties. "I am aware of a car bomb attack at one of the gates in the US base, but we are not allowed there to get more details," the spokesman said. A spokesman for the US military in Afghanistan, Capt. Angry youths in Ede, Osun State have attacked Mrs Idiat Babalola, the Senior Special Adviser to Gov. Rauf Aregbesola on Diaspora. Babalola who came for the burial of Sen. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has issued a final warning to a former gubernatorial candidate in Niger State.                 Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu during an interactive session with staff of the Commission to mark its 14th year anniversary. A 26-year-old mother of four, Anya Ashom has emerged winner in the female category of the maiden Jos Mountaineering Competition. Kaze Samuel, a 35-year-old security guard, who was the oldest participant, won the male category held on Saturday in Jos as part of the ongoing Jos Carnival. Mr Peter Mwankon, the Plateau Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, said mountaineering was featuring as competition for the first time in any carnival in Nigeria. Mwankon implored people of the state to guard their heritage, stressing that such competition would attract development. Mr John Kaze, a community leader that host the Shere Mountains, lauded the government for initiating the carnival. Kaze said games would expose its youths to economic opportunities. Hundreds of Palestinians in Israeli jails began a hunger strike on Monday in response to a call by prominent prisoner Marwan Barghouti, widely seen as a possible future Palestinian president. Palestinians termed the open-ended strike a protest against poor conditions and an Israeli policy of detention without trial that has been applied against thousands since the 1980s. Israel said the move by the prisoners, many of whom were convicted of attacks or planning attacks against Israel, was politically motivated. The protest was led by Barghouti, 58, a leader of the mainstream Fatah movement of the Palestine Liberation Organization, serving five life terms after being convicted of murder in the killing of Israelis in a 2000-2005 uprising. Twelve people were injured when a corrosive substance was thrown inside a packed London nightclub on Monday, police and fire services said, amid a sharp rise in acid attacks in the British capital.  A London Fire Brigade spokesman told AFP an “unknown corrosive substance” was thrown in Mangle, a club in east London, in the early hours of Monday. It was identified as “an acidic substance” from testing, he said, adding that there were around 600 people in the venue at the time of the incident.  “Twelve people showing signs and symptoms attributed to corrosive substances were treated on scene by ambulance and brigade personnel prior to removal to hospital,” he added.  The police said in a statement that all the injuries were “non-life threatening” and the incident was not believed to be terrorism-related.  Police were called to the scene at around 0010 GMT “after members of the public complained of a noxious substance,” the statement said.
