News-Men should step aside for women in politics – Akpabio

  The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said men should consider stepping aside for women to engage in the political process. Akpabio said this on Wednesday at an international conference on women in governance organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies. Akpabio said, “Despite my desire to see more women elected to the National Assembly as senators and representatives, I still feel that it is easier to get more women into appointive offices than into elective positions in our current political space. “This is because the dynamics are different. Fuel subsidy: Why refineries are not working – Neliaku

  A former Senior Special Assistant to the President (Office of the First Lady), Ike Neliaku, has said that refineries across the country are not working because some persons deliberately frustrated it for selfish gains. Ike in a chat DAILY POST on Saturday, described the state of the nation’s refineries as a shame, alleging that despite so much money that was stolen, the refineries are yet to work. Tinubu turns to gas to improve Nigeria’s economy

  Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed his wish of living above 100 years. The 83-year-old former Nigerian leader disclosed this in an event organized to mark the one year anniversary of the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabur Bakare, Jamolu II. Obasanjo advised the monarch to propagate unity among traditional rules in Yorubaland while speaking at the interdenominational service. “I will be here to celebrate your 20 years anniversary with you whether I am invited or not. “By the time I also partake in celebrating your 20th anniversary with you, if God wishes, He can call me to come and meet Him in heaven because I know by that time, I will be above 100 or more . American president advices Americans to stay awy from Nigeria

The United States government has warned its citizens against travelling to Nigeria for security reasons. In the advisory published on the website of its Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs, Americans were warned against travelling to Borno, Yobe and the Northern part of Adamawa State due to terrorism. Americans were also advised against travelling to Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano and Yobe states due to kidnappings. The consulate listed coastal areas of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Delta, and Rivers states with the exception of Port Harcourt as areas prone to maritime crimes, civil unrest, kidnapping and other crimes. The consulate further said that Nigeria is known for violent crimes such as armed robbery, assault, carjacking, kidnapping and rape. Nigeria extends lockdown, relax restrictions on inter-state travel and certain academic levels

The second phase of the gradual easing of the lockdown in the country has been extended by four weeks, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has said. Nigeria imposed its first round of lockdown in late March. Mr Buhari on April 27 announced the gradual easing of the five-week lockdown in FCT, Lagos and Ogun state. The lockdown was eased to a nationwide night curfew (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) from May 4 to May 17. The curfew was later amended by many state governments to commence from 10:00 p.m. The first phase of the relaxed lockdown was extended by two weeks and elapsed midnight June 1. The second phase commenced on June 2 and elapses by midnight today, June 29. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it is exploring for oil and gas in Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The NNPC said Wase and Kanam, which are parts of the Upper and Middle Benue Trough. have oil and gas prospects capable of contributing to the economic growth of the country. The exploration exercise was disclosed on Saturday when the Management of the organisation paid Governor Simon Bako Lalong a courtesy visit at Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos. Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari through the Group General Manager, Frontiers Exploration Services, Abdullahi Bomai, while highlighting on the development, stressed that NNPC has acquired and used modern equipment which has resulted to the identification of hydrocarbon materials in the Upper and Middle Benue Trough.

    President  Muhammadu Buhar i has departed London, United Kingdom, for Nigeria after his “private visit” that sources have confirmed was a medical trip. His plane, a Boeing 737 Business Ajet with registration number 5N-FGT, left Standsted Airport in London at about 12:20 pm. On April 24, Buhari had left the country for London without handing over as constitutionally required to the Vice President.
